Inflammation and high triglycerides are a few of the specific cellular mechanisms that actually cause leptin resistance in the first place. When you fast intermittently, body fat slowly comes off the body. Your body will naturally become lean over time and be able to maintain a low body fat set-point by steadily increasing leptin sensitivity (the opposite of leptin resistance).

Nutritional factors are very important here. It is critical to limit the amount of fructose and processed carbohydrates when resetting your leptin levels. Ideally, you should permanently limit processed carbohydrates for optimal health. Consuming healthy fats and protein will help you create building blocks for your hormones. These include healthy omega-3 fats, avocados, and high quality coconut oil. At the same time, you want to lower your omega-6 levels, which come from grains, conventional meats, and processed oils. Processed oils include grain derived oils and vegetable oils such as corn, soy, and canola. In addition, you also want to avoid unstable polyunsaturated oils like walnut, flax, and peanut oil. You will want to aim for getting 50-60% of calories from healthy fats, 20% from protein, and the rest from vegetables and fruits (more emphasis on vegetables).
